Last we heard from Afrobeats star Adekunle Gold, he was singing about love in all of its many forms on “Obimo”. With his latest single, “Coco Money”, he’s turned his attention to finance, declaring that if he doesn’t do anything else, he’s going to get what he’s owed. “Bitch better have my money!” goes the chorus, itself an interpolation of Rihanna’s 2015 hit of the same name. Gold’s take, said to appear on his forthcoming album, is a beautiful mix of Afrobeats, highlife and Afropop. If the two songs he’s released in 2025 are any indication of what’s to come, we’ll be listening to plenty more Adekunle Gold before the year is out.
