No shortage of Latin artists of late have drawn inspiration from the vibrant sound of Afrobeats. Yet while it’s become common to hear today’s Spanish-language stars contribute to the globalisation of this particular style with singles or album one-offs, Kapo marks one of the few to fully embrace and embed himself within the genre. Starting with his breakout hit “OHNANA”, the rising Colombian star’s come-up in the 12 months preceding POR SI ALGUIEN NOS ESCUCHA featured a string of tracks like “ALOH ALOH” and “UWAIE” that reinforced that first impression. All three of those feature here alongside other like-minded tracks like “RUFF” and “NO CRY”. Previously released collabs “CARITA ANGELIKAL” with Rels B and “ILY” with Myke Towers join new ones like the bilingual “X TI” with Feid. No stranger to genre-hopping, Manuel Turizo fits right in alongside Kapo on the breezy yet pulsating “ANTES”, as does Colombian dancehall act Lion Fiah on the more reggae-informed “MEDICINA”.
